In comparing our Platner style dining table and the one Knoll sells, there is a slight visual difference in the way we curve our base, but most people don’t notice this. We think our version of this table is better than the Knoll version, along these points:
- Our Base is made of stainless steel rods (9mm diameter) which are polished to give the shiny look. Knoll's base is made with mild steel in thinner rods, and then it is chrome plated. Chrome plating does give a shinier finish, but it also is subject to bubbling and if gets a deep scratch, there is really no way to easily fix it and depending on the depth of the scratch, the frame can rust.
- Our Table Base is taller than the Knoll version. Most people prefer a table that has the modern table height of around 29.5 inches. The Knoll version table height is about 28 inches, which is low in todays standards.
- Our table base is less wobbly than the Knoll version, because we have added an extra support ring at the bend. This doesn’t affect the visual look of the table, but there is a noticeable improvement in the overall stability of our table compared to Knoll’s
- We include a clear plastic ring around the bottom of the base to prevent damage to the floor.
- Our glass is thicker than the Knoll version: theirs is .375" and ours is .591" (15mm)
