Our Exhibition Sofa is based on the popular Mies van der Rohe Bauhaus style chair, the iconic chair originally created for the German Pavilion of the 1929 International Exposition held in Spain.
Our frame is constructed from premium grade solid bar stock stainless steel. All joints are fully welded, sealed, and seamless. The frame is hand-polished to a mirror-like finish. The geometry of the frame is accurate to the Mies van der Rohe original design. Four snaps attach the back cushion to the frame; 2 snaps and a belt attach the bottom cushion to the frame.
The cushion surfaces consist of 80 individual top-grain leather panels; each piece is cut and hand-sewn using a handrolling welting technique not found on similar sofas on the market. The seat and back cushions are filled with high resilient - high density polyurethane foam that is CAL117 flame test rated. The cushions are supported by leather straps riveted to the frame and whose top and side edges match upholstery color. Compared to other similar sofas on the market, ours is much more comfortable.
